Rahul Gandhi meets IDPs in Jiribam, on way to meet more in Churachandpur and Moirang

Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to meet Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at the Governor’s House today at around 6 pm.

Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is on a day-long visit to Manipur and meeting internally displaced people (IDPs) affected by the year-long violence.

Since his arrival this morning at Kumbhigram airport in Silchar, Cachar district of Assam, Gandhi has been meeting with the victims.

His first stop was a relief camp at Thalai In, Youth Care Centre in Fulertal, Lakhipur, Assam, near the Manipur border, where he met 63 IDPs.

After this, Gandhi travelled by road to Jiribam district in Manipur, where recent violence was reported on June 6. He visited the relief camp set up at Jiribham Higher Secondary School where he met and interacted with 163 inmates sheltering in the relief camp.

Gandhi then headed to Silchar Airport and flew to Imphal. He landed at Imphal Airport at around 1.30 pm and moved by road to Churachandpur, where he is scheduled to visit two relief camps and meet over 14,611 victims of ethnic violence.

Among around 100 relief camps in Churachandpur, Gandhi will visit only one relief camps set up at the Sadbhavna Mandap camp, where he will interact with the sheltering inmates.

After this, he will travel to Moirang to visit a relief camp at Phubala High School and meet more victims of ethnic violence, though the exact number of victims at this camp is not yet ascertained.

Concluding his visit, Gandhi will return to Imphal to meet Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan to discuss the current situation. He is scheduled to depart from Imphal Airport to Lucknow after his meeting with the Governor.

The Leader of Opposition is also scheduled to meet Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at the Governor’s House today at around 6 pm before leaving for Lucknow on his way back to New Delhi.
