Manipur to Resume Bus Services Amidst Opposition, CAPF to Escort Vehicles

The Chief Secretary’s office has issued a stern warning against any attempts to disrupt the newly resumed transportation services.
After nearly 2 years of conflict and unrest, Manipur is set to resume free movement of people across the state with the launch of bus services from Imphal to various hill districts. The Manipur State Transport (MST) will operate these buses with security escort provided by the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).
Chief Secretary PK Singh announced that the buses will begin their journey from Imphal Airport at 9 AM and will run on multiple routes, including Imphal-Kangpokpi-Senapati and Imphal-Bishnupur-Churachandpur. The service will also include departures from Senapati and Churachandpur. In addition to the bus services, helicopter services have been arranged between Imphal and Churachandpur, as well as Imphal and Ukhrul from March 12.
The Chief Secretary’s office has issued a stern warning against any attempts to disrupt the newly resumed transportation services. Security measures have been strengthened to ensure smooth operations.
This decision follows a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on March 1st, where he directed officials to restore free movement across Manipur from March 8. Despite this initiative, several Kuki-Zo groups have strongly opposed the move, demanding a separate administration before resuming normal travel.
The government remains firm in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of passengers as public transport resumes.
