The committee to be headed by an Executive Director of the company has been asked to submit its report within 5 days

Oil India Limited (OIL) has formed a 4-member high-level committee to investigate the oil well blast that killed 1 and injured 4 others at its NHK 162 well plinth of Western Asset mine, around six kilometres away from Duliajan head office in Eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh district yesterday evening.

The committee formed by OIL Resident Chief Executive (RCE) Anfor Ali Haque will be headed by an Executive Director of the company.

The committee will conduct investigations into the accident’s underlying cause, any mistakes made, and any necessary corrective action to ensure that it does not happen again, said Anfor Ali Haque.

The committee would submit its report within 5 days.

The tragic mishap occurred during the repair work of the NHK 162 well.

The deceased has been identified as 58-year-old Robin Urang, a contractual employee. He was seriously injured and was rushed to OIL Hospital in Duliajan but was declared brought dead by doctors.

Among the four injured, two are being treated at the OIL Hospital in Duliajan while the other two have been rushed to Dibrugarh for further treatment.

Worth mentioning here that on May 27, 2020, a sudden and uncontrolled release of gas occurred from an oil-producing well, operated by the public sector unit OIL, near Baghjan village in Assam’s Tinsukia district. The situation took a turn for the worse on June 9 when the well caught fire and led to the loss of 3 lives.
