The Assam police has arrested 5 auditors for seeking bribe while investigating a case of financial anomalies in various village panchayats in Eastern Assam’s Charaideo district.
The officials who had gone from the Auditor General’s office in Guwahati were apprehended from a hotel in Sonari during a hearing into one such corruption case.
The arrested auditors have been identified as Rafiquddin Ahmed, Saikat Bhattacharya, Hem Bahadur, Subrat Duwarah and Jugal Kishore Tamuli.
Another person identified as Surajit Pal who is a Panchayat secretary was also arrested for assisting the auditors.
