We will bring peace and harmony back to Manipur : Rahul Gandhi

Gandhi along with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge kicked off the yatra in presence of other senior leaders and supporters.
Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the BJP for allegedly being indifferent to the situation in Manipur. He assured the people that the party feels the pain felt by the people of Manipur during the past few months and promised to bring back peace and harmony that the state has been known for.
He was speaking ahead of the start of his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from the Khongjom War Memorial Complex, in Manipur’s Thoubal today.
Speaking to the media, Gandhi said, “We understand the pain that the people of Manipur have been through. We understand the hurt, the loss that you have been through and we promise you, we commit to you that we will bring back what you valued, we will bring back the harmony, the peace and the affection that this state has always been known for.”
He also claimed that the present situation in Manipur is a result of the hate-filled politics practiced by the BJP and RSS.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, speaking at the occasion, said, “When Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru first visited the state of Manipur, he described it as the jewel of India. What he said was repeated by Indira Gandhi as well as Rajiv Gandhi. The statehood status to all the Northeastern states have been provided by Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.”
He added that the people of the state are warriors and thanked the people for always contributing to the unity of the country.
Gandhi along with Kharge kicked off the yatra in presence of other senior leaders of the party and supporters.
The march which started from Thoubal will culminate in Mumbai after passing through several states including Nagaland, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. The yatra will conclude on March 20th after covering a distance of 6,713 km passing through 15 states and 110 districts.
It may be mentioned that the yatra was earlier planned to start from Hapta Kangjeibung in Imphal but the district administration did not give clearance citing prevailing law and order situation in the state.
