The arson attack has created a tense situation in the area, threatening public peace and safety.
Village houses in Gampal and Haiyang (a hamlet of Gampal) under Sahamphung Sub-Division in Kamjong District, Manipur, were set ablaze by unidentified miscreants at around 9:00 AM on April 23. The arson attack has created a tense situation in the area, threatening public peace and safety.
In a swift response, the District Magistrate imposed a curfew starting from 2:00 PM on Wednesday. The order was issued under Sub-Section 1 of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. The situation remains tense, and authorities are on high alert as they work to identify the culprits and prevent further violence.
It may be noted that Manipur has been experiencing ongoing violence since May 2023 and has been under President’s Rule since February this year.
