Assam Chief Minister had warned that any breach of law during the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ will be dealt with sternly by authorities.
An FIR has been registered against the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ and its chief organiser KB Byju for allegedly deviating from its permitted route inside Jorhat town in Assam on Thursday, police said.
According to an official, the march took a different turn in the town instead of going towards KB Road as permitted, and this led to a stampede-like situation in the area.
A suo motu FIR has been registered at Jorhat Sadar Police Station against the Yatra and its chief organiser.
The FIR mentioned that the yatra did not follow the district administration’s norms and it violated road safety norms.
Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had warned that any breach of law during the Rahul Gandhi-led ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ will be dealt with sternly by authorities.
CM Sarma said that he had cautioned the Congress not to take the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra via Guwahati city and to take any other alternate route. He added that if the Congress is determined to take the rally through the city, Assam government will not make any security arrangements for them and that he will file a case of violation and take appropriate action against them after the Lok Sabha election.
