Nagaland Cabinet to hold talks with Centre and ENPO to clarify ENPO’s demands

The Nagaland Cabinet Meeting chaired by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today, decided to hold talks with the Centre as well as the Eastern Naga People’s Organization (ENPO) to bring in more clarity on the ENPO demands and to clear up the confusion over the nomenclatures, the Frontier Naga Territory or the Autonomous Council.
The State Government is also seeking more clarity on the proposal of the Centre and the ENPO, for an acceptable nomenclature.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Nagaland government spokesperson and minister KG Kenye said, “In the Cabinet meeting today we dwelt on the demand of ENPO for an autonomous council. We need some more discussion on this matter. We have deliberated on many issues regarding their demand and many points have done serious discussion.”
When asked about the reports of the postponement of the proposed consultative meeting scheduled on June 30 after the central leaders directed the state not to go ahead with the consultative meeting, Minister KG Kenye said, “It is not so. It is not at the behest of any direction from anywhere. But after the recent statements from the ENPO side, we thought we need to take a little more time and have more clarity before holding the consultative meeting with our tribal bodies.”
Minister Kenye also said, ” The central leadership would soon invite the state leaders to discuss the issue. This was much awaited. We are planning to go. The meeting will be with HM and other concerned authorities.”
He further stated “the state government wish to confer with ENPO and the government have intimated some of the members to convey the state govt is willing to meet them. Hope they will reciprocate.”
Speaking about the state government’s take on the proposal since the government also have some of the documents, Minister Kenye said, ” We have some documents but it is yet to be confirmed whether those are authentic or not and that is the very reason why we are and she’s to meet our leaders in Delhi.”
