There was no voting at all in areas under Eastern Nagaland following the indefinite shutdown and “voluntarily abstain” call given by the ENPO.
Is the ENPO being undemocratic by urging people to abstain from voting? And most importantly what are the authorities doing to ensure security of those who would want to excercise their franchise?
The ENPO today sent a representation to the Election Commission of India (ECI) affirming that it will abstain from participating in the biggest festival of democracy.
This was decided in a crucial meeting chaired by Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio with Eastern Nagaland Legislator's Union (ENLU)
The shutdown has been called in view of the Joint Coordination meeting with the 20 Legislators from Eastern Nagaland region
CM Neiphiu Rio said that the draft proposal of Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) is from the Home Ministry and was handed to him by Union Home Minister Amit Shah
Protestors demanded that the government sign the final settlement soon.
