Tripura: Pradyot Debbarma ready for fast-unto- death from tomorrow, visits site

Pradyot Debbarma said that the Centre's populist agenda of 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas' will be a setback if the indigenous people of Tripura are ignored

Tripura’s royal scion and TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Debbarma is all set to begin his fast-unto-death from tomorrow. Debbarma visited Hatai Kotor, the location from where he will be launching the stir to push for the rights of the Tiprasa people.

Speaking to media person, Debbarma said, “The community is way greater than the party and I understand this very clearly. If the Government of India gives us something today, then it will be not for Motha only, it will be for the Tiprasas. If our children get good education, if they can write examinations in the language they want to, then it will not only be for Motha but this will have an impact on all the Tiprasas. If the Government of India gives us pattas for securing our land rights. If it is done, then it will be for the Tiprasas not only for Motha.

I know very well that I will not be able to struggle for long. So till I am alive I want to give something to my people, only then I will be able to find a place in heaven. But if I can’t do anything than it is of no use, I do not want to become a burden.”

The TIPRA Motha chief maintained that the populist agenda of the Centre -‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ cannot be considered a success if the indigenous people of Tripura are ignored.

Pradyot questioned the Centre as to what would be the future of the indigenous people be like, if the influx of Bangladeshis continues unabated. According to the TIPRA Motha founder, its high time for the Centre to understand the dynamics and do something for the people.

Pradyot said, “The Government of India must understand that it cannot do Sabka Saath Sabka Vikaas by ignoring us. We are not speaking against any community but if more Bangladeshis come here, we will have to face more pressure. So what will be our future? The Centre must think about it.
I have worked for my people from the bottom of my heart, I want to give something to the people. I am worried that if I fail what will happen to Tiprasa?”

On February 24, Pradyot Deb Barma had threatened to fast unto death.

In a sensational message to the people of his state, Deb Barma who has been fighting for the rights of the indegenous people of Tripura, blamed the Centre of being insensitive towards the indegenous people and their rights and said that he would not regret dying for their cause.

The very next day Pradyot was called by the central leadership in Delhi apparently to pacify things. However, the TIRPA Motha chief said that nothing fruitful had happened in the meeting following which he decided to stick to his demand of going for fast unto death.

In a video message today, Debbarma said there will be no political flags at the site of the fast-unto-death.
