Assam’s War on Drugs: Heroin worth Rs 12 cr seized in Guwahati

2 drug peddlers have been arrested in connection with the case.
As part of the ongoing war on drugs, the Assam Police in a breakthrough has recovered heroin worth Rs 12 crore from Guwahati.
Two drug peddlers identified as Zamal Ali and Salimudding have been arrested in connection with the seizure. The drugs consignment was brought from Manipur.
A Special Task Force led by Inspector Kapil Pathak made the seizure after intercepting a vehicle at Khanapara following a tip off. Upon frisking the vehicle the narcotics was recovered.
Inspector Kapil Pathak said, “We received inputs that a vehicle carrying narcotics is on it’s way to Guwahati. Accordingly the vehicle was traced out and intercepted the vehicle near the APSC office. We found packets of heroin kept inside a bag. The weight of the consignment is around 1.5 kg. 2 carriers have been apprehended and necessary legal action has been initiated. The market price is around Rs 12 crore.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has lauded the recovery made by the Assam Police.
In a post on X, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “In an anti-narcotics operation carried out by @STFAssam , a vehicle was intercepted at Khanapara this afternoon and 1.5kg of heroin, hidden in soap boxes was recovered.Two people have been apprehended in this connection
