With the steady rise in COVID-19 cases across the state, the Nagaland government has announced a 7-day total lockdown in the state starting May 14.

The decision of clamping lockdown was taken by the high-powered committee on COVID-19 during a meeting held at Nagaland Chief Minister’s residence in Kohima on Tuesday.

The lockdown will come into effect at 6pm on May 14 and will continue till May 21.

“The existing restrictions will continue till the total lockdown is in place,” said a statement from the high-powered committee on COVID-19.

“During the lockdown period, Health & Family welfare department may pursue aggressive testing, utilising the full testing capacity of the COVID-19 laboratories,” the statement added.

The state government will release a fresh set of SOPs to be followed during the lockdown period soon.

Nagaland had yesterday registered 133 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the overall tally to 16,283. The death toll rose to 150 with the death of 10 persons.
