MHA Reimposes Protected Area Regime in Manipur, Mizoram, and Nagaland Amid Rising Security Concerns

Under the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order, 1958, all foreigners entering these states will now require a Protected Area Permit (PAP).

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has reinstated the Protected Area Regime in the states of Manipur, Mizoram, and Nagaland, citing growing security concerns due to the influx of individuals from neighbouring countries like Myanmar and Bangladesh.

Under the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order, 1958, all foreigners entering these states will now require a Protected Area Permit (PAP). In Manipur, this move is seen as crucial, given the volatile security situation, with the government emphasizing closer monitoring of foreign nationals.

Meanwhile, the Manipur Government has issued a notification denying the existence of the “Kuki-Zo Council.” After an investigation, it found no record of such an organization operating in the state. The group’s claim of having its headquarters in “Lamka” was dismissed, as no district by that name exists in Manipur.

The government expressed concerns about the potential external origins of such dubious organizations, suggesting they might aim to disrupt peace and harmony. Authorities have announced plans to register an FIR to uncover the intent behind these claims and warned citizens against engaging with unverified groups.

“Police are actively looking into this matter and an FIR will be lodged to ascertain the true nature & intent behind such misleading activities,”release stated.

The state government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and urged media outlets to avoid publicising press releases from unauthorised organizations. Citizens were also advised to stay vigilant, trust credible sources of information, and disregard divisive narratives.
