Sprinter Hima Das will be appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Assam police, announced Assam’s finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at the assembly.

In his budget speech, Dr. Sarma said,“Those sports persons from Assam who have won gold medals in Olympic, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games will be appointed as the grade one officer of the Assam Government.”

“We are happy to announce that ‘Dhing Express’ Hima Das will be the first beneficiary of this initiative. She will be offered the post of DSP,” Sarma added.

He expressed hope that the initiative would be helpful in promoting sporting spirit among the young people of the state.
