Following Nagaland-based model-actor Andrea Kevichüsa’s foray into Bollywood with Anek last year, Sikkim-based Eksha Kerung is set to try her luck in the movies with Anshuman Jha’s Lakadbaggha.
But Kerung isn’t your traditional desi female actor — a police officer and professional boxer off screen, she is set to play a femme fatale in Victor Mukherjee’s directorial venture that is touted to be India’s first film about an animal lover vigilante.
Jha, who is acting and producing the film, says he has always held the talent from the north-east in high regard. A fan of female assassin action flicks like Kill Bill, he shares, “Eksha has been a super model. I reached out to her and she was kind enough to audition. Being a martial arts practitioner, and kick-boxer, she seamlessly slipped into this world that we were creating.”
The ‘girl with no name’ as Jha refers to her character, will be seen kicking, punching, and pulling off stunts which Kerung has performed.
Kerung concedes that though she was more interested in modelling than acting, she intends to explore this industry now. “When Anshuman offered the film to me, I was not confident. But when he explained my character of an assassin, I was immediately interested. It is my comfort zone. It was great to do the action and perform the stunts, apart from act in it. I was actually fighting like an assassin.”
