Patients Suffer as Sikkim’s Main Govt Run Hospital, STNM Hospital, Hit by Acute Water Shortage

The Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial Hospital (STNM) Hospital, Sikkim’s leading government run hospital in Gangtok, has been facing an acute water shortage for several days causing immense inconvenience to patients.
The reason behind the water shortage has been attributed to a major pipeline burst near the DC office, severely affecting the hospital’s daily operations.
In a release, the Medical Superintendent confirmed that a team has already begun work to restore the damaged pipeline. While the full restoration is still underway, the hospital has implemented a temporary solution to manage the crisis. A dedicated team from the Gangtok Fire Station has taken charge of filling the hospital’s tank with water drawn from a static firefighting tank. This emergency arrangement aims to meet the hospital’s basic water needs until the pipeline is fully repaired.
The hospital administration has assured that it is committed to resolving the issue at the earliest. Officials have promised to clear the blockage and restore normal water supply soon, ensuring that such incidents do not affect hospital services in the future. Authorities will continue to share updates as the restoration work progresses.
