NCHAC elections: BJP wins 6 seats uncontested

With the opposition candidates withdrawing their nominations on Friday, the BJP won these six seats

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 6 of the total 28 seats uncontested ahead of the 13th North Cachar Hill Autonomous Council (NCHAC) elections scheduled to be held on January 8, 2024.

BJP won the Gunjung, Hamri, Hajadisa, Harangajao, Maibang West and Maibang East seats following the opposition candidates’ withdrawal of their nomination papers on Friday.

Friday was the last day for the withdrawal of nominations.

Candidates who were declared winners are– Nojit Kemprai (EM) from Gunjung, Monjit Naiding (HMB chairman) from Hamri, Projith Hojai (EM) from Hajadisa, Amendu Hojai (EM) from Harangajao, Mohet Hojai (former CEM) from Maibang West and Monjoy Langthasa (fresh candidate) from Maibang East constituency.

Though the final scrutiny of the candidates’ nominations has been completed, the number of contesting candidates is yet to be ascertained.

Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa has reiterated his claim of BJP winning in all 28 constituencies and said that people of Dima Hasao are very much aware of the BJP’s people’s friendly developmental activities. He also appealed to all for a peaceful election. BJP has fielded candidates in all 28 constituencies of NCHAC.

Voting will be held in a total of 280 polling stations. Voting will begin at 8 am and end at 4 pm on January 8.

A total of 1,41,124 people are expected to cast their votes. Of this, 70,485 are male voters and 70,639 are female voters.

The counting of votes will take place on January 12.
