The National Democratic Front of Bodoland or the NDFB formally disbanded on Monday. A special event was held on the occasion at the NDFB designated camp at Sonaigaon in Udalguri district.
Leaders of NDFB factions led by B Saoraigwra, Dhiren Boro and Ranjan Daimari were part of the disband program. Significantly, NDFB(Progressive) chief Gobindo Basumatary who had recently joined the UPP(L) skipped the event.
Confirming the development, NDFB(D) chief Dhiren Boro said that 34 years of Bodo armed conflict has finally ended. Dhiren Boro also added that from today fears in the minds of different communities including the Bodos in the BTC will fade away.
Meanwhile, NDFB (S) chief B Saoraigwra maintained rehabilitation of the cadres of NDFB is the group’s primary concern. Saoraigwra hopes that the government will play a positive role in this regard.
The NDFB(S) chief also gave a clear hint of joining politics as he said that it is necessary for implement the Bodo Accord in full spirit.
It may be mentioned that all the groups of NDFB had laid down arms on January 30 in presence of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
The development took place after the last faction of the rebel group NDFB(S) led by B Saoraigwra had returned to the mainstream.
Subsequent to this, all four factions of NDFB had signed the historic Bodo Accord with the Centre on January 27 thus putting an end to the decades long Bodo movement.
