Talks between the NSCN-IM and the interlocutor of the central government are at an advanced stage.
This was informed by Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy. The minister, however, refused to give details of the current stage of negotiations.
A framework agreement was signed on August 30, 2015, by NSCN-IM general secretary Thiungaleng Miuvah and the government interlocutor in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The framework agreement came after over 80 rounds of negotiations spanning over 18 years, with the first breakthrough made in 1997 when the ceasefire agreement was sealed after decades of insurgency in Nagaland.
Reddy also stated that other Naga groups have also joined the peace process and adequate care is being taken to protect the interest of all stakeholders including the neighbouring states with Naga groups.
