The opposition Mizo National Front yesterday hit the streets demanding the state government to cancel the extension of contract of several lottery firms.
MNF supporters along with three party MLAs staged a protest at the Directorate of Institutional Finance and State Lottery in Aizawl demanding the cancellation of extension of contracts.
Accusing chief minister Lal Thanhawla of being involved in a multi-crore lottery scam in the state, the MNF demanded the state government to revoke the newly floated lottery tender and stop distributing lottery to four distributors.
In fact MNF leader Tawn-luia alleged that the state government had incurred losses amounting to nearly Rs 11,808 crore due to the scam.
The CAG, in its latest report presented to the Assembly in 2016, said the Mizoram government lost Rs 11,808.77 crore during 2012-13 to 2014-15 fiscal because of non-deposit of minimum guaranteed revenue and administrative expenses by four lottery distributors.
The MNF leader alleged that the tenure of four firms, whom the Chief Minister allegedly gave undue favors were extended twice even after the end of their agreement without floating new tenders.
