Over 10,000 Govt Employees On 3-Day Strike in Mizoram

Employees from all departments, except for the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan are participating in the strike.
More than 10,000 government employees working under centrally sponsored schemes (CSS) in Mizoram began a three-day strike on Tuesday demanding regularization of their services.
The protest, called by the All Mizoram CSS Employees Coordination Committee (AMCECC), highlights long-standing grievances over job security and employment norms, which remains unresolved despite previous talks with the state government.
H Lalengmawia, acting Chief Secretary of Mizoram, who also serves as the principal secretary, has issued a strong warning against the strike, cautioning that the administration may impose “severe consequences,” including potential dismissal of the protesting employees.
He added that the government has already issued an office memorandum on the regularisation of CSS employees, following recruitment rules approved by the government.
He added that officials had met AMCECC leaders and urged them not to proceed with the strike, but those efforts proved unsuccessful.
According to official records, there are 10,654 Contractual Support Staff employees across 16 government departments. Employees from all departments, except for the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan are participating in the strike.
AMCECC has expressed disappointment with the government’s decision to enforce the Central Secretariat Service Conduct Rules of 1964 and the ‘No Work, No Pay’ policy beginning April 14.
Despite the protest, the state government remains firm in its stance. Lalengmawia reiterated that constitutional guidelines must be followed for any form of regularisation.
