Mizoram Polls 2023: 174 candidates including 16 women candidates file nomination for upcoming assembly election

Chief Minister Zoramthanga is the most prominent face among the nominees

A total of 174 candidates including 16 women candidates have submitted their nomination papers for the upcoming Mizoram state assembly. Yesterday was the last day for filling of nominations.

The key candidates who filed their papers include Mizo National Front (MNF) chief and three time CM, Zoramthanga who is looking to retain power, return to the top office and become the longest serving CM of the state. He is contesting from the Aizawl East – I constituency. His main opponent Lalduhoma, chief of Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), a retired IPS officer, Mizoram BJP president Vanlalhmuaka contesting from Dampa and Mizoram Congress chief Lalsawta who would be contesting from Aizawl West-III.

Mizoram Assembly Election 2023

55 candidates filed nominations in Aizawl District, 27 in Lunglei District, 9 in Siaha District 10 in Champhai District, 13 in Kolasib District, 15 in Serchhip District, 13 in Lawngtlai District , 14 in Mamit, 11 in Saitual District, 4 in Khawzawl District and 3 in Hnahthial District.

The 16 female candidates filed their nominations across 18 Assembly Constituencies.

The scrutiny of nomination papers is scheduled to take place today.

Ruling MNF, opposition parties ZPM and Congress are contesting all 40 seats. BJP is contesting in 23 of the 40 seats. First time entrant AAP is contesting in 4 seats.

The state goes to polls on November 7 and results will be declared on December 3.
