Mizoram farmers help Police nab escaped jail inmate, a dreaded murderer

Farmers of Hnahthial district helped Mizoram Police arrest the third of the five jail inmates who had escaped from the Lunglei District jail on April 19. Mizoram Police made the arrest just past midnight last night.

The farmers had tied Lalchawimawia up in a farm and then informed the police.

Lalchawimawia, 24, had escaped from the jail along with 4 other prisoners. The police has so far managed to nab three of the escapees with the help of the locals. Two are still on the run.

Lalchawimawia was serving a jail term for murdering a 49-year-old woman in Lunglei Chanmari on September 6, 2021.

Two escapees, Lunglei Lalbawihliana, 27, and Dokapthang, 26 were arrested on April 20 within hours of them running away from the jail. Locals of Mausen village had nabbed them and handed them over to the police.

The two missing escapees who are still on the run are – Haudeichhun Tlangnuam from Champhai District and Vanneihthanga Leisen of Myanmar. Both are charged with drug offences.
