Mizoram has opted for the Imphal-Aizawl route to transport petroleum, oil and LPG owing to the frequent blockades of the national highway in Assam’s Cachar district, according to a report published by The Assam Tribune.

Civil Supplies Minister K Lalrinliana said that the decision to carry oil and gas from neighbouring Manipur has been taken due to frequent blockades of the national highway on the Assam-Mizoram border.

In the wake of a fresh border row with neighbouring Assam that led to the blockade of Mizoram’s economic lifeline at Lailapur in Cachar district, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga said that his State would get supplies from the neighbouring States of Manipur and Tripura as well as Myanmar and Bangladesh if the roadblocks were not cleared.

Despite chief secretary-level talks on the Assam-Mizoram border dispute, several trucks carrying cooking gas and oil have been stranded along the inter-state border due to the continuing blockade of NH 306 by agitators in Assam’s Cachar district.

As per reports, no truck has entered Mizoram from Assam till Friday night due to the road blockade.
