Medical seats row: Hek writes to Himanta

Meghalaya Health Minister AL Hek on Wednesday shot a letter to Assam Health Minister requesting him to sort out the problem relating to the allotment of seat for MBBS courses

Meghalaya Health Minister AL Hek on Wednesday shot a letter to Assam Health Minister requesting him to sort out the problem relating to the allotment of seat for MBBS courses in medical colleges of Assam in accordance with the quota.

As per the laid norms ten seats are reserved for students from Meghalaya which includes 4 in Assam Medical College, 4 in Guwahati Medical College and 2 in Silchar Medical College.

However in a letter received by the state Health Minister only two seats were made available. This is not the first instance, earlier last year the same problem had surfaced which the state which was sorted out with the help of the Supreme Court.

Talking to newsmen, Health Minister AL Hek said that he has already raised the matter with Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma who assured of looking into the matter.

Health minister further stated that if the Assam government fails to act in this regard, than the Meghalaya government will resort to, legal measures as done in previous years.
