CM Himanta Biswa Vows to Strengthen Tiwa Language and Heritage

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to preserve and promote Tiwa culture at the 13th Central Session of the Tiwa Sahitya Sabha, known as Tiwa Mathonlai Tokhra, held at Oujari in Morigaon district.

Addressing the gathering, CM Sarma reaffirmed the government’s commitment to support the Tiwa community and said the government will ensure development of its language and traditions.

The key initiatives announced by the government include introducing Tiwa as a medium of instruction in primary schools, along with other tribal languages, and developing Tiwa language textbooks through the State Institute of Education and Research.

The government also plans to extend support to Tiwa Mathonlai Tokhra to document the history of the Tiwa community and collaborate for the construction of a Kalakshetra along the banks of Charan Beel. Additionally, CM Sarma announced the opening of the Jungal Balahu tourist spot this year to boost cultural tourism.

During the event, over a thousand artistes performed the traditional Tiwa dance. Praising the grand performance, CM Sarma announced plans to organise similar cultural showcases in Guwahati to bring wider recognition to Tiwa heritage ensuring the development of its language and traditions.
