Manipur: Security beefed up after Imphal West ASP Amit Moirangthem’s house attacked by armed gunmen

Heavy security have been deployed in Imphal, Manipur and security arrangements in and around the residence of Additional Superintendent of Police of Imphal West in Manipur, Amit Moirangthem have been beefed up after armed miscreants attacked ASP Amit Moirangthem’s residence in Imphal East last evening firing multiple rounds.
Security deployment was witnessed in Imphal with security forces armed with light machine guns and automatic weapons deployed on the streets of the state capital.
As per latest inputs from sources, the Manipur Police service officers have taken strong exception to the incident of alleged assault of the ASP.
Around 7 pm yesterday, a group of armed men allegedly attacked the house of Moirangthem at Wangkhei in Imphal East firing multiple rounds. 2 civilians were injured in the attack.
According to Moirangthem’s father, Dr M Kula-chandra, Moirangthem was not at home during the attack and was dropped at a private health centre in Imphal with injury marks on his body by unidentified men later in the evening.
Dr M Kula-chandra said that the armed men forced their way into the compound of their house and started firing.
This, after speculations started doing rounds that ASP Moirangthem has been abducted.
Later, Indian Army and Assam rifles were called to control the volatile situation.
According to reports, who sustained injuries, has been rescued and a case has been registered in this regard.
The State Police is carrying out raids to nab the accused involved, said Manipur security adviser Kuldiep Singh IPS (retd).
