The felicitation ceremony was chaired by Maj Gen Navin Sachdeva, General Officer Commanding of Red Shield Division along with senior officers, jawans and families of Red Shield Division.

Maj Gen Navin Sachdeva extended his heartiest congratulations to the Olympic silver medallist during the ceremony and also presented her with a memento as a token of appreciation.

During an interactive session with young soldiers and children, Mirabai Chanu shared anecdotes from her journey to becoming an Olympic medalist and exhorted the young cadres to aspire big with a focused approach in order to fulfill their dreams.

Meanwhile, after her win, Chanu shared that she would love to get in touch with the truck drivers who gave her lift during her training days from her home in a tiny village to her training academy in Imphal. To express her gratitude she hosted a special event for them and honoured them for their contribution in her achievement.

It may be mentioned that Saikhom Mirabai Chanu created history at the Tokyo Olympics, clinching the silver medal in the women’s 49 kg weightlifting category. With this, Chanu became only the second Indian weightlifter after Karnam Malleshwari to win an Olympic medal.
