A horrific murder has been reported from Guwahati’s Maligaon area, where a man was brutally beaten to death during a drunken altercation. The victim, identified as Raju Dey, was allegedly attacked by Amulya Rajbangshi, who remains on the run.

According to reports, the two men, both under the influence of alcohol, got into a heated argument that quickly escalated into violence. In a fit of rage, Amulya Rajbangshi struck Raju Dey with a bamboo stick, inflicting fatal injuries. Dey, who worked at a railway canteen in Pandu, succumbed to his injuries at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The incident came to light when Rajdeep Dey, the victim’s son, received a phone call at around 10:30 AM on Wednesday from Krishna Saha, a local canteen owner. Saha informed him that his father was found unconscious and badly injured near a grocery shop owned by Hem Thakuria. Saha immediately rushed the injured man to Boripara Hospital. However, due to the severity of his injuries, doctors referred him to GMCH for advanced treatment.

When Rajdeep reached GMCH at around 11:20 AM, he found his father bleeding profusely from the nose. Before losing consciousness, Raju Dey allegedly named Amulya Rajbangshi as his attacker. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, he was declared dead between 11:55 AM and 12:05 PM.

A CT scan revealed severe head trauma, including a crescent-shaped extra-axial blood collection, multiple skull fractures, and a midline brain shift. The report also confirmed acute subdural hemorrhage, scalp lacerations, and extensive internal bleeding, highlighting the brutal nature of the attack.

Following the incident, Rajdeep Dey lodged an FIR at Jalukbari Police Station. The police have started a manhunt to trace and apprehend Amulya Rajbangshi, who is currently absconding.
