BTC Budget 2025-26 Tabled: A significant portion of the budget falls under the SOPD (State-Owned Priority Development) scheme.

The Budget Session of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) commenced on Wednesday at the Legislative Council building in Kokrajhar, with BTC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro presenting a Rs 843 crore budget for the 2025–26 financial year. The budget spans 40 departments and reflects the vision of a “VIBRANT BTR”.

Chaired by BTC Speaker Katiram Boro, the two-day session is expected to see the budget passed on Thursday after deliberations. A significant portion of the budget falls under the SOPD (State-Owned Priority Development) scheme.

The Transformation Department received the highest proposed allocation at Rs 126.26 crore, followed by Rs 105.05 crore for the Education Department and Rs 98.63 crore for the Department of Welfare for Plain Tribes and Backward Classes.

CEM Boro announced new initiatives, including the establishment of a Bodoland Community Welfare Department aimed at preserving the region’s diverse culture and languages. He also proposed setting up a Bodoland Community Museum in Chirang and a Bodoland International School of Peace and Happiness in Tamulpur. He emphasised that the budget aims to ensure peace, good governance, and inclusive growth while continuing key programmes and promoting social justice.

However, Opposition MCLA and BPF leader Derhasat Basumatary criticised the budget, stating that it failed to address core issues affecting the public and demanded a stronger focus on welfare measures.
