Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang joined a high-level video conference with Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, to discuss the roadmap for Viksit Sikkim yesterday. The meeting is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, aiming to transform India into a developed nation by its centenary year of independence.
The conference reviewed ongoing and proposed development initiatives in Sikkim, particularly those supported by the Central Government. CM Tamang expressed deep appreciation for Minister Scindia’s insightful guidance and constructive feedback, noting their value in steering inclusive growth and regional development.
Prominent among the discussions were Sikkim’s strengths in tourism and organic farming. A key focus was the need to expedite the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Vibrant Villages Programme, which aims to uplift remote and border regions through enhanced infrastructure, connectivity, and livelihood avenues.
Highlighting strategic priorities, CM Tamang emphasised the potential of the Chiwabhanjyang corridor as a gateway for cross-border trade with Eastern Nepal. He also advocated for promoting homestays in rural areas, a move aimed at empowering local communities, bolstering the rural economy, and fostering sustainable tourism.
The deliberations reaffirmed the Centre’s sustained support for Sikkim’s development. Several infrastructure projects are already underway, marking visible progress in the state’s journey towards realising the goals of Viksit Sikkim.
