The Manipuri ponies and horses known for their endurance and mastery in warfare throughout Manipur’s history were seen parading down the streets of Imphal today, spreading the message of peace and harmony with their human companions.
The rally was jointly organized by the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association, the Manipur Equestrian Association, and the Manipur Pony Society to highlight the prevailing situation in Manipur.
The rally commenced from Manipur breeding farm, Lamphelpat, passed through DC Office Complex, Uripok Kangchup Road, Thangmeiband, and culminated at Pony Farm near Central School, Lamphelpat.
Speaking to media on the sidelines of the rally, president of Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association, H. Dilip said that the horses are deeply linked with Manipur’s history since time immemorial.
“The history of Manipur is very intermediary linked to the horses right from the time of Lord Marjing and Lord Thangjing playing pony. The role of horses has been iconic in the history of Manipur in preserving its boundaries, its integrity throughout the history of Manipur,” H. Dilip said.
He said that the rally was taken out to send out a clear message that the people in Manipur are there for upholding Manipur’s integrity and are against the bifurcation of the state.
“We feel it apt at this point of time because we fear the integrity of Manipur is in question. We have decided that these three organisations will take out a rally showing the iconic relationship of horses as Manipur’s peace and integrity. We want peace. We don’t want to bifurcate Manipur into smaller entities. We have to learn to live in harmony together,” H. Dilip added.
