Gangtok Resident Falls Victim to Job Fraud, Loses Rs 2.6 Lakh

A resident of Bojoghari, Gangtok, fell victim to an online job scam, losing Rs 2,60,776 to fraudsters who posed as recruiters.

According to the victim, the scammers contacted him under the pretext of offering an online job opportunity through a project called “75 Explore.” Trusting the offer, the victim followed their instructions, which ultimately led to the misappropriation of Rs 2,60,776 from his bank account.

The victim, originally from Arambagh, Hooghly, West Bengal, reported that the incident took place on 11 March 2025 between 9:47 AM and 7:30 PM.

A case was registered at Sadar Police Station on 13 March 2025 under sections 111(2)(b), 318(2), and 319(1) of the BNS 2023, along with Section 66D of the IT Act, 2000. The authorities have taken up the case for investigation and are working to identify those responsible for the scam.

Police have advised residents to remain vigilant against suspicious online job offers and report such incidents promptly.
