Arunachal's Tage Hailyang: A funeral with full state honours will take place tomorrow, with CM Pema Khandu likely to attend the last rites.

A wave of sorrow swept through Tajang village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Ziro district as the mortal remains of Indian Air Force Corporal Tage Hailyang arrived home in Ziro’s Lower Subansiri district. The airman’s inconsolable mother and grief-stricken family received him in heartbreaking silence, his body returning in a coffin draped in the national flag.

A funeral with full state honours will take place tomorrow, with Chief Minister Pema Khandu likely to attend the last rites. The entire state is mourning the loss of a braveheart who served his country with honour and selflessness.

Corporal Hailyang was among the 28 people killed in the brutal Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22. He had been holidaying with his wife when tragedy struck.

His remains reached Guwahati Airport late last night, where Assam Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah and Guwahati Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta paid floral tributes. From there, the body was taken to Arunachal, where his family and fellow villagers awaited with heavy hearts.

Corporal Tage, 30, was posted in Srinagar for the past 4 years and was just transferred to Dibrugarh in Assam. He was about to shift when this happened.

Corporal Tage Hailyang’s sacrifice will forever be etched in the hearts of the people of Arunachal Pradesh and northeast.
