Constable arrested for alleged drug peddling in Nagaland

In a significant turn of events, the Mokokchung Police have taken into custody a constable from the 9 Nagaland Armed Police Indian Reserve (IR) Battalion, identified as Renpothung Ezung (44 years old), on charges of indulging in drug peddling.

The arrest took place during a routine checking and frisking operation at Settsu Junction on August 9.

During a meticulous inspection of a taxi, the police team uncovered a cache of illicit substances concealed in various compartments. A staggering total of 276 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon were concealed inside a mobile phone box. Additionally, another 136 capsules were discovered hidden in a brown sling bag. Alongside that, several 130 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon were found inside the pocket of the jacket worn by the arrested constable, officials said.

A case has been registered at Mokokchung police station under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The Mokokchung Police would be conducting a comprehensive investigation to uncover the extent of involvement of the constable in the alleged drug trafficking case and the network.

The Additional Superintendent of Police and Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Mokokchung, Nagaland, released an official statement in response to the arrest, emphasizing the commitment of law enforcement to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation. The case will be thoroughly investigated, uncovering the truth behind the alleged drug-peddling network, the police said in the statement.
