Nagaland NH129A project: DY CM TR Zeliang holds meet with Peren CSOs

First Published: 10th August, 2023 11:44 IST

Nagaland DY CM TR Zeliang expressed hope that the meeting will bear positive results

Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang, who is also a minister in-charge for National Highways held a meeting with Peren civil society organisations to resolve issues pertaining to the completion of the NH-129A (Package 1). The Nagaland
NHIDCL executive director, RK Singh was also present in the meeting.
The meeting assumes significance since the CSOs in Peren have blocked the NH-129A at Tepuiki bridge since July 31 over alleged breach of agreement by NHIDCL with regard to construction of NH-129A (Package 1).
Sharing details about the meeting, TR Zeliang informed that the deliberations followed after his meeting with Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) Nitin Gadkari on August 3.
Deputy Chief Minister Zeliang in a tweet said, “As directed by the Hon’ble Minister @MORTHIndia , Shri @nitin_gadkari a meeting was convened with @nhidcl to discuss and sort out the issue bogging down the successful completion of NH-129A (Package-I). Had a detailed deliberation along with the stakeholders and the NHIDCL officials. Optimistic that this meeting will bear positive results soon and the project will be successfully completed at the earliest.”

Reports stated, Zeliang in the meeting conveyed that he had given free hand to the district administration and the stakeholders on the subject matter of structural damage compensation since the start of the project for (Package-I, II, III and IV). However, Zeliang said that he was not involved in the compensation matter.

However, in Peren town portion, Zeliang informed he had to intervene since he was made to understand that in 2021, NHIDCL had changed the scope of work and reduced the width of the road to 12 Metres, which was against the Original DPR and Contract Agreement.

Acknowledging the people of Peren town, Zeliang in the meeting said not a single landowner or building owner opposed the assessment made by the committee duly constituted by the State government.

He said the stakeholders of Peren town never claimed the rates of their own in series of assessment carried out by the damage assessment committee unlike in some of districts in Nagaland. He said that there were some cases where the landowner fixed their own rate of land compensation/ damage compensation, which had been a problem for the state government and NHIDCL to complete the projects.

Zeliang, as per reports said “fortunately” the land owners of Peren town agreed to whatever was assessed by the government in accordance with the existing State SOR-2021 and the people were willing to accept and give up their land and properties.
