Congress is all set to field former minister and working president of Arunachal Congress, Bosiram Siram, as the candidate for the Arunachal East Lok Sabha seat for the upcoming Parliament elections. Siram would be up against BJP’s Tapir Gao who would be fighting for another term.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) General Secretary Kon Jirjo said that for the Arunachal Pradesh East seat, the party has decided to recommend Bosiram Siram’s name to the high command.

For the Arunachal Pradesh West seat, Kon said that the Pradesh Election Committee will decide on the candidate and inform the party high command soon.

BJP has announced the names of Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and the party’s Arunachal Pradesh president Tapir Gao as its candidates from the two seats yesterday. They both are the sitting MPs from Arunachal West and Arunachal East seats respectively.

Rijiju, the Earth Sciences Minister in the Narendra Modi Cabinet, will seek re-election from the Arunachal Pradesh West seat which he has held since 2004, except for one term.

Tapir Gao was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2004. He lost the seat in 2009 and 2014 to former Congress leader and now BJP leader Ninong Ering. Gao was again elected in 2019.
