The Centre is committed to conclude the long pending Naga issue by the end of this year, the assurance came from BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav who was addressing a meeting on abrogation of Article 371.

Ram Madhav said that for ensuring lasting peace and prosperity in Nagaland, the Peace Talks needed to be concluded at the earliest.

Madhav’s statement comes at a time when the NSCN-IM with which the government of India is involved in talks has clearly stated that Nagas will not merge into India but are willing to co-exist as two entities.

The rebel group had also added that the Nagas do not recognize the Indian constitution.

It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had reportedly given Nagaland Governor RN Ravi who was also the central interlocutor three months to close the Naga Peace Talks.

Meanwhile, the BJP National General Secretary and the party’s Northeast in-charge reassured that Article 371 would not be tampered with at any cost.

Referring to the BJP’s alliance partner in the state, the NDPP, Madhav reiterated that the seat sharing arrangement between the two parties was a gentlemanly agreement and will complete its full term.
