The last rites of the martyr Assam Rifles jawan Suman Swargiary of 46 Assam Rifles was performed with full state honours at his home in Thaikarakuchi village of Baksa district in Assam today.

Brave heart Suman Swargiary lost his life in the the ambush which took place on November 13 in Manipur.

The ambush took place around 11 am in the Singhat sub-division of Churachandpur.

The broad daylight ambush has claimed as many as seven lives including Commanding Officer of 46 Assam rifles, Viplav Tripathi, his wife Anuja Tripathi, his six year old son Abir Tripathi, while many were injured.

Swargiary’s mortal remain arrived at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati earlier today from where it was taken to his home via road.

According to reports, an Indian Army plane carrying the mortal remains of the Assam Rifle jawans who lost their lives in the Manipur ambush had to make an emergency landing at the Jorhat airport on Sunday.

The plane made an emergency landing at Jorhat airport due to a technical snag.

The mortal remains of the jawans were kept overnight in Jorhat and was taken to their respective destinations early today.

Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, senior police officers and administration officials paid their rich tributes to the martyred soldier’s mortal remains at the Guwahati airport.

The Minister also took to Twitter and wrote, “Rich and final tributes to the brave heart Suman Swargiary. The martyred Assam Rifles soldier will always be remembered for his great sacrifice at the call of duty. Heartfelt condolences to the undaunted Jawan’s family. May they find strength to deal with the loss. Prayers. “

Emotions ran high as his mortal remain arrived at home, where civilians from across the district already gathered to pay their rich tribute and last respect to the martyred.

Swargiary leaves behind his wife Juri Swargiary and two year old son Barad Swargiary.


It may be mentioned that earlier on Sunday evening,a special prayer for the departed souls was organised in Kokrajhar district. Candles were lit and prayers were offered for the martyred.

Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Pramod Boro said, “Today, we light candles for peace and love. We are praying for the departed souls of the brave soldiers. We also condemn the barbaric attack by militants in Manipur. We stand with the government and request the prime minister and home minister to control the militants with strong hands so that our brothers and sisters in the North East can live peacefully.”

Pramod Boro also said that the Bodoland Territorial Council will extend its help to the family of Suman Swargiary and will announce financial aid for them. He appealed to militant groups to come forward and take part in the peace-making process.
