Assam police seize heroin worth over Rs 2 cr, 3 arrested; CM lauds effort

The arrested accused have been identified as Shiplu Ahmed, Maruf Ahmed and Abidul Haque, all from Karimganj district.
Three persons were arrested from Assam’s Tinsukia district after heroin worth Rs 2.30 crore was seized from their possession, police said on Monday.
The arrested have been identified as Shiplu Ahmed, Maruf Ahmed and Abidul Haque, all hailing from Karimganj district.
Acting on a specific information, a joint team of the Special Task Force and the district police intercepted a vehicle with the three on board at Gondhuiguri Tiniali in Kakopathar area on Sunday night and seized 700 grams of narcotics substance along with Rs 13,950 in cash and five mobile phones from them, a police officer said.
The seized items were recovered from 57 soap boxes, hidden in two secret chambers of the vehicle, a police officer added.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the team and said, “STF Assam & @TinsukiaPolice jointly intercepted two vehicles at Gandoiguri Tiniali, Tinsukia & seized 700 grams Heroin packed in 57 soap cases; Rs 13,950 cash & 5 mobile phones. Also apprehended three accused. Good work @assampolice. Keep it up!”
