In a significant development related to the ongoing investigation into the land-grabbing scam, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced today that over 1,000 cases have been registered in Guwahati. Addressing the media, CM Sarma assured the public that efforts are underway to resolve even 15-year-old cases associated with the scam.

“To bust the land grabbing scam, we are taking a huge step towards it. Landowners who have lost their land due to illegal land grabbers can help them in retrieving their land. Landowners who have lost their case in court in 15 years, we can help them to get back their land as we have nabbed big fraudsters in connection with the case,” said CM Sarma.

Commending the efforts of Assam Police, Guwahati Police, and DGP GP Singh in nabbing fraudsters, CM Sarma stated, “To bust the land grabbing scam, we are taking a huge step towards it. In January, we will provide a detailed report on the land scammers.” Following this announcement, CM Sharma personally visited the Kamrup Metropolitan District Deputy Commissioner’s office to review pending files related to the scam.

To facilitate resolution for victims of land grabbing, CM Sarma urged individuals to contact the police and lodge complaints.

Earlier, the Assam Police’s cyber cell apprehended Juri Sharma, a junior assistant at the sub-registrar office in Panikhaiti on December 5.

A total of 14 individuals were detained in connection with the land scam, with Juri Sharma being added to the list.

It is to be mentioned that, Ramen Modahi identified as the kingpin behind the land-grabbing scam in Guwahati was shot in the right leg by the police during an attempt to escape on the night of November 26.
