As war of words escalates ahead of the Assembly polls in Assam, top BJP and NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on State Congress president

As war of words escalates ahead of the Assembly polls in Assam, top BJP and NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on State Congress president Ripun Bora after senior Congress leader and three-time Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Ajanta Neog formally joined the BJP.

Days after Ripun Bora accused the BJP of blackmailing Ajanta Neog forcing her to jump ship, Sarma said that congress has always disrespected key leaders and never appreciated their contribution to the party. Sarma added that Congress has long lost the trust of the people.

Sarma said that Ripun Bora’s comments are disrespectful since Ajanta Neog is a leader of tall stature who has worked tirelessly for people.

Former senior Congress leader and MLA Ajanta Neog joined the BJP along with Rajdeep Gowala, MLA from Lakhipur, on Tuesday in Guwahati.

Meanwhile, Sarma exuded confidence that joining of the leaders would make doubly sure that the BJP accomplishes its mission 100+ in the 2021 elections. The party’s base will also be further strengthened in Golaghat, Cachar and Dhubri, Sarma said.

When asked if more leaders are in line to join the BJP, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that no leaders are in contact with the BJP leadership as of now. Sarma added that the BJP will form a screening committee to assess if the joining of a leader would benefit the party, following which a call would be taken.
