Arunachal Pradesh: 3 BJP MLAs, a former minister to join NPP today

The BJP leaders are unhappy as BJP did not give them tickets for the upcoming Arunachal Assembly elections

Unhappy with not being given party ticket to contest the upcoming Arunahcal Assembly elections, three sitting BJP MLAs, a former minister and a few others are slated to join NPP later today.

The MLAs who would be joining NPP are – Laisam Simai, MLA from the Nampong constituency, Wanglam Sawin, MLA from the Khonsa East Assembly Constituency and Dorjee Wangdi Kharma, MLA from the Kalaktang Assembly Constituency. 

Former minister Japu Deru, Er Rabe Don, retired chief engineer and a ticket hopeful from Dumporijo, Yorter Kanda a ticket hopeful from Taliha and ⁠Yumjum Taipodia a ticket hopeful from Lower Siang are the others who would be joining NPP today.

The NPP, led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, is an ally of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA of BJP) and has extended support to the Khandu government.

Notably, Arunachal Pradesh will vote in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections on April 19.

The last date for filing nomination papers is March 27, and the scrutiny of papers is scheduled to be done on March 28. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 30. The counting of votes for the Arunachal  Assembly elections will be held on June 2 and for the Lok Sabha elections will be on June 4. Arunachal Pradesh has two Lok Sabha seats and a 60-member assembly.
