NSF’s Anti-AFSPA rally rocks Kohima; NESO, Global Naga Forum, CSOs take part

The Naga Students’ Federation held a mega rally in Kohima demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act or AFSPA.

The rally began at the Old MLA hostel junction in Kohima where NSF and civil society leaders gathered with hundreds of others for a formal address following which the protesters headed to the Raj Bhawan to submit a memorandum to Governor Jagdish Mukhi.

Student body leaders from several parts of the region including those from Assam also attended the rally. NESO chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya, various civil society groups from Nagaland including the Global Naga Forum also addressed the gathering at the Old MLA hostel junction.

In the memorandum submitted to the Governor, the NSF demanded an immediate repeal of AFSPA and justice for the Mon victims.

Massive protests also erupted in Manipur’s Ukhrul district demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. People in large numbers took to the streets in protest against the Mon killings and sought justice for the victims. The rally was organized by the Naga Students Federation. The ANSAM, TKS besides other frontal Tangkhul Naga Organizations also took part in the protest.
