Nagaland Cabinet Decides To Oppose Home Ministry’s Decision To Reimpose Protected Area Permit in Nagaland

According to a senior cabinet member, the decision was taken citing the peaceful law and order situation in the state and the absence of any influx of illegal immigrants.

The Nagaland cabinet, in its first meeting of the year held today, decided to oppose the Union Home Ministry’s decision to reimpose the Protected Area Regime in the state.

The cabinet, which met at the Chief Minister Residential Complex in Kohima, discussed the Union Home Ministry’s decision to reimpose the Protected Area Permit in Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram. The cabinet has decided to write to the Union Home Ministry, requesting that the PAR not be re-imposed in Nagaland.

According to a senior cabinet member, the decision was taken citing the peaceful law and order situation in the state and the absence of any influx of illegal immigrants.

In other significant development, the cabinet has entrusted the Eastern Nagaland Legislature’s Union to convene a meeting with the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation to discuss the demand for a Frontier Nagaland Territory Authority. The meeting is expected to take place before the second tripartite talk, scheduled for January 15.

Additionally, the cabinet has also decided to take up the Naga political issue in the next cabinet meeting.
