SKM forms 9 Parliamentary Committee for upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections

The Election Commission on Sunday changed the date of counting of votes in the Sikkim assembly polls from June 4 to June 2.


The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party has formed a Parliamentary Committee for the ensuing 11th Sikkim Assembly elections and 18th Lok Sabha elections.

The party has formed the 9 member committee which includes the party president and also Sikkim Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang, Kunga Nima Lepcha, Arun Kumar Upreti, Sonam Lama, Bedu Singh Panth, Bhoj Raj Rai, Ran Bahadur Subba, Tila Devi Gurung and Devi Maya Pradhan.

Just an hour after the announcement of the schedule for the general election to the state legislative assembly of Sikkim, CM PS Tamang expressed gratitude towards those who have been integral to the journey of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM)-led government over the past five years.

Taking to social media, CM wrote, “It has been an incredible five-year term for the SKM-led government, and I’m deeply grateful to the people of Sikkim for their trust and support, which have propelled us to our current position of excellent level.”

“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Hon’ble Governor, Cabinet Colleagues, MLAs, MPs, Advisors, Chairpersons, other dignitaries, Chief Secretary, DGP, HoDs, Officials, Stakeholders, NGOs, Societies, Clubs, various organizations, and the dedicated employees of Sikkim,” he added.

He stated their commitment, professionalism and collaborative spirit, which have been instrumental in delivering transformative results for the state.

On Saturday, the Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the general election to the state legislative assembly of Sikkim, which will be held on April 19, 2024.

However, a day after it announced the schedule for the Lok Sabha and four Assembly elections, the Election Commission on Sunday changed the date of counting of votes in the Sikkim assembly polls from June 4 to June 2.
