Imkong L. Imchen said that the state of the Nagaland would have been worse had Nagaland not been established as a state

The Nagas are fed up with the AK 47 culture, and every Naga has the right to live in peace, Nagaland Information and Public Relations, Soil and Water Conservation adviser Imkong L. Imchen said on Tuesday.

Extending Moatsü greetings in a program held at Senden Riju, Dimapur, Imchen lamented that people have been held for 26 years by the AK 47 are now demanding to know the outcome of 26 years of political negotiations. He emphasised that every Naga has the right to know the truth about the negotiations since they are also stakeholders.

Imchen recalled that before Phizo left for London, the Naga National Council (NNC) and the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) were working together.

However, after Phizo left for London, the Nagas started killing each other, Imkong L. Imchen added.

He also said that the state of the Nagaland would have been worse had Nagaland not been established as a state.

Imchen said that there would have been bloodshed if the Nagas gained freedom and tribalism persisted.

He claimed that under such circumstances, the Nagas might be forced to seek India to regain its independence. “Why should we ask for independence when there is tribalism?” he questioned.

Imchen acknowledged that his claim would be refuted and that he would possibly be called a “traitor.”

Meanwhile, Imchen described the Shillong Accord as a direct declaration of defeat and betrayal that sparked the creation of the NSCN. Later NSCN split into many groups, and termed it as an embarrassment for the integrity of Nagas.

He also asserted that in 1954, then-Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru acknowledged the mistake he had made in using armed forces to suppress the Naga movement.

Imchen claimed that Nehru then tried to find a political solution after acknowledging that a military one was not an option.
