The Assam BJP has received another big shot in the arm today with 3 prominent leaders joining the saffron party.

The 3 leaders, 2 of whom are from the Congress, joined the BJP at a joining programme at the BJP office in Guwahati.

Former minister and former MLA from Khumtai Bismita Gogoi, former President of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress Angkita Dutta and former President of AASU Dipanka Nath formally joined the BJP today.

It may be mentioned here that Bismita Gogoi is a popular leader from Khumtai constituency and she had also held the post of Cultural Affairs Minister in the Tarun Gogoi government.

Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the leaders who joined the party today and said that BJP is targeting apolitical people to join the party.

“We have been trying to include apolitical people in our party such as doctors, engineers, chartered accounts, historians among others. Today there is a joining ceremony in Guwahati and I extend my congratulations to those who are joining,” Sarma said.

Assam’s Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pijush Hazarika took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for this mass exodus. Taking to his official X handle, Hazarika sarcastically commented that Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ has made a huge impact on Assam.

Hazarika wrote, “I have to admit Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Bus Nyay Yatra has created a huge impact in Assam. Over 150 leaders from @INCAssam and AASU are joining @BJP4Assam today. Good decision by @angkitadutta, @bismita_gogoi, @dipankakumar and others.”
