Assam CM sets up SIT to probe APSC cash for job scam

Assam Director General of Police, GP Singh on Sunday said strict action will be initiated if anyone found guilty in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-job scam.
While, speaking about the APSC recruitment scam, Director General of Police, GP Singh said already a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted by the state government to probe the matter.
He assured that a strict action against culprit into this matter.
On Saturday, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted by the state government to probe the alleged cash-for-jobs scam involving the APSC.
Singh constituted the SIT following a letter received from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to investigate the case.
The chairman of the committee is ADGP Munna Prasad Gupta and the other members are Guwahati Joint Commissioner of Police Thube Prateek Vijay Kumar, two officers of the DSP rank, and two inspectors.
Surjeet Singh Panesar, an APS officer who was in charge of the investigation, is no longer a member of the SIT.
The SIT has been instructed by the Gauhati High Court to submit a thorough report on the situation within the allotted six-month time period.
The APSC was embroiled in a cash-for-job scam, in which nearly 70 people, including its former chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul and 57 civil service officials, were arrested since 2016.
Paul was arrested by the police in November 2016, and was released on bail in March this year.
