According to reports just coming in, Matey the former MLA of Khonsa West was allegedly killed by militants

Former Arunachal MLA, Yumsem Matey, was killed this evening allegedly by militants at Rahu village under Lazu police station in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.

According to initial reports, Yumsem Matey, the former MLA of Khonsa (West), was attending some function at Raho village when some youths reportedly whisked him away.

He was taken towards the Indo-Myanmar border and killed, sources said.

Matey was an aspirant for the upcoming 2024 Arunachal Pradesh State assembly elections from Khonsa (West) legislative assembly constituency.

Matey was the Khonsa (West) MLA from 2009 to 2014. He has been a Congress politician and won the seat on a Congress ticket but in 2015 he joined BJP.

He served as parliamentary secretary for Department of Women and Child Development, Social Welfare, Social Justice and Tribal Affairs, and Department of Tirap, Changlang and Longding.

Before entering politics, he served as district adult education officer in Changlang district. In 2015, Matey joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
